Bike to Sport & Winter Roll

Bike to Sport Saturdays!
The BRC Team figured that a heap of the cars parked in the football and rugby grounds on Saturday mornings had driven less than 3-4km to their game. So Bike to Sport Saturdays was conceived to convert those cars into bikes! There was free bike parking, a bike mechanic and giveaways to encourage those handful of kms to be done by bike - and do the warmup at the same time!

From the middle of June, through to August, over 7 Saturdays, the team set up their new portable bike racks with bike parking at both the Junior Soccer and Rugby grounds – shouting all riders free hot chips or sossie rolls from each club’s tuckshop. Huge thanks to both the Cambridge Football Club and Hautapu Rugby Club for really getting behind this initiative.

The first Saturday at Soccer saw 75 bikes on their busiest Saturday - thats 75 people that would not have come by bike otherwise! Over the coming weeks there were great numbers across both Soccer and Rugby. A Good Union Voucher was also up for grabs for the team snapped with the most players riding - So. Many. Reasons to Ride!

Winter Urban Roll
Another new event to get the  wheels moving around town was the Good Union Winter Roll. A community and family focussed event that promoted the idea of anyone joining the BRC team for a gentle roll around town on a Sunday afternoon, using the network of trails around town. Result: Over 150 Cambridge locals rolling their way around the town’s trails together (then propping up the Good Union bar over a bowl of fries and good yarns!) This event was very popular and the feedback was positive, so there will be another community roll before the end of the year.  More People on Bikes More Often in 2022!
